How To Determine Product Dosage And Measure Dosage?

In order to determine the appropriate dosage of a release agent and measure it accurately, certain guidelines can be followed. The goal is to establish a consistent isolation layer on the tire’s inner surface and bead for internal spray applications, while for external spray applications, the aim is to create a thin and even film, typically around the tire’s sidewalls and outer shoulders. It’s worth noting that external spray agents are typically not used on tire treads.

Once a high-quality isolation layer has been achieved, you can estimate the amount of release agent needed through visual inspection based on the criteria mentioned above. This estimation can be further refined through two common methods: the ‘chip test’ or measuring the shot weight.

The ‘chip test’ involves attaching a pre-weighed chip to either the inner or outer surface of the tire. By comparing the chip’s weight before and after spraying, you can determine the actual amount of release agent applied. Alternatively, you can measure the shot weight by placing a pre-weighed polyethylene bag on the spray gun nozzle during operation to determine the amount ejected from the nozzle.

For improved accuracy when using the polyethylene bag method, it’s advisable to average measurements from multiple tires. This entails simulating the spray volume on 5 to 6 tires, measuring the amount on each, and then calculating an average. When using the ‘chip test’, it’s best to take three chips and position them at different locations on the inner liner or outer surface of the tire. This helps assess the distribution of the isolation film across the entire tire surface.

Both methods involve calculating the mass difference between a pre-weighed empty polyethylene bag or clean tire chip before and after spraying (or simulated spraying) to determine the actual quantity of release agent applied. The specific method to use depends on your technology and expertise, and a knowledgeable release agent supplier can provide valuable support throughout this measurement process.
